If you want to make your home look better but spend a small amount and do things that really make a difference then these are the things I would recommend from my experience that you do. They are things I have done in the past and aesthetically have a big difference for a small cost. If you really hate DIY you could look for a local handyman as they are usually good for DIY type jobs that don’t require a tradesman like a plumber. Changes to make to the outside look of your home
The gardening – whilst it seems silly cutting back that hedge or weeding the garden makes a huge difference to the first impressions your home gives. It can be done in a few hours usually and for minimal cost but looks great when done.
Curtains or blinds – Do they look tidy both inside and outside? Simply tidying them up and using tiebacks or giving them a clean can make a simple easy difference. If you are considering blinds then try to look at the house as a whole and install the same in each window if possible.
New plants – Could you buy a few new plants for pots around the garden or near your door? It could look so lovely with some fresh plants and they do not cost much.
Windows – whilst clean windows really is a must if your windows are getting old then you could replace them with minimal cost if you only replace those that need them. Replace blown windows, repaint or replace sash windows and of course, for security and emergencies make sure they all lock and open easily.
Fences and gates – could these use a lick of paint? We recently painted all our fences (we live in a corner house so it is a lot!) and the house looked so much better.
Changes to make to the inside of your house
Flooring – If you have wood flooring installed and they look dated and tired then there are options you can do without replacing the floor. You can easily refurbish your engineered wood flooring or solid wood flooring to bring them back to life.
Carpets – You do not need to necessarily consider new carpets, how about hiring a carpet cleaner and getting them all fresh and clean? This can make a big difference and if you hire something like a Rug Doctor it doesn’t have to be expensive either.
Cushions and throws – add a bit of colour to freshen up your room with new cushions or throws for the lounge or beds. If you have perfectly good cushions then you may only need new covers. Don’t forget to keep the old ones for a refresh in the future at no cost at all!
Painting – Can you freshly paint all the doors? That wouldn’t take too long but make a big difference. Definitely, something to consider. If you have the money and motivation then why not repaint a few rooms with a few cheap cans of paint for a bigger refresh?
Indoor plants or flowers – I often buy a bunch of flowers or a plant to brighten up a room. For just a few pounds it can make a big difference to the way a room looks.
Air fresheners and candles – Some of the first impressions we get of a house is the smell when we walk into a room. Investing in some new candles, air fresheners and similar can make a big difference to the impression your home gives to visitors.
