Easy ways to be more grateful and show gratitude every day

Gratitude is something that many of us know can help with a positive mindset. However, showing gratitude and trying to actively be more grateful is not as easy as it sounds. Like anything, it is all about developing positive habits, but where do you start when it comes to gratitude? Being grateful is a positive change that you can make and not only will it make you feel good, but it will have a positive effect on your mental health and thought process. Here are some of the ways that you start to be more grateful.

A gratitude journal

One of the most common ways to embrace gratitude is to keep a gratitude journal. This is where you can take time to write down some of the things that you are grateful for that day. Many people try and stick with a number, so for example, making a note of three things to be grateful for that day. It encourages you to be specific and feel that moment again and let the goodness overcome you.

Grateful thoughts

It is also a good idea to actively try and think grateful thoughts and a great time to do this is just before you go to sleep and when you wake up in the morning. Take time to think about a few things you are grateful for, such as your partner, friends, or something that has happened to you that day. Think about them and say in your mind that you are thankful for those things before you go to sleep or when you wake up. Or both if you like the idea of really going for it. It will help to centre how you feel and sets the tone for a good night’s sleep or a happier day ahead.

Gratitude in the car

The car is the perfect time to think about things you are grateful for and to develop the habit of being thankful for even the smallest of things. For example, as you drive and the traffic lights remain green, say thank you in your mind. Another example is as your hands are on the steering wheel say thank you for your car, thank you for the convenience of driving, etc. It starts to cement the habit of gratitude in daily life.

Show appreciation to others

Another great way to feel gratitude is to show appreciation for others. Saying thank you to your partner for cooking the evening meal, thank you to your children for tidying their room, there are so many ways you can show appreciation to others, and helps to solidify that feeling of gratitude within you.

Send gratitude messages

Finally, make a conscious effort to send gratitude messages. A great way to do this is to send a few text messages out every week. Thank a friend for that conversation you had, your partner for being there for you. Those messages will not only make you feel good but will definitely brighten up someone else’s day.

Hopefully, these tips will help you to be more grateful.
