As students begin their slow approach to the end of secondary school, the time to think about what to do next arrives. In most cases for students, the final decision is usually sixth form. This is because it is the usual natural progression for children who are looking to move on to university or higher education, through the simplest route.
However, this doesn’t mean that your child can’t get into university without A levels as there are many other routes that will allow your child to get to the same destination. With this in mind, here are some tips from this a level college on if sixth form is the right choice for your child.

Is your child academically prepared?
GCSEs are known to be one of the first times a student will truly struggle with their studies, given the pressure, strain and overload of content in such a short amount of time. It is important to consider how capable your child is as the leap from GCSEs to A levels is one of the biggest in education and can feel daunting for some students.
If your child has shown that they are capable of working through exam papers and managing a heavy workload, then it is a good indicator that they will be able to handle the changes they will face when it comes to sixth form. They won’t be studying independently all the time as there will be teachers to provide them with plenty of support with their A levels.
Do they have a particular degree in mind?
Most students have a basic idea of what they would like to do as a career and are usually what provides a direction for them when it comes to their studies. However, it can be a lot to decide at this age, especially if your child has changed their mind about what they would like to do in higher education.
Sixth forms are a good place for those who need help when it comes to the university application process. Trained professionals are there to help your child figure out which degree will be right for them and allow for a smoother transition into university.
