Raising a child that is conscious of how their actions and choices impact the environment is important for our planet, and we should all be doing more to protect it. Here are some tips from an independent school in London on how you can help your child become more environmentally aware.

Talk About It
You can’t expect your child to make conscious decisions surrounding environmentalism if they don’t really understand the point behind it. With that said, find opportunities to talk to your child about climate change and how you can do your bit as a family to help. Teach them what happens to our rubbish if we don’t recycle and talk about why it might be better to walk rather than drive somewhere.
Watch Documentaries
As well as talking about the environment, encourage your child to watch documentaries and other media about the impact of climate change and how we can conserve energy. Not all documentaries are boring, but they are certainly educational.
Lead By Example
Show your child how to lead an eco-friendly lifestyle by leading by example. Switch off lights when you leave a room, turn down the thermostat slightly, and wash and recycle your rubbish, but be sure to explain why you’re doing it. Eventually, these things will all become second nature to your child. You should also consider which brands you support, as not all of them are environmentally conscious.
Spend Time Outdoors
Help your child find love of our planet by spending time in the great outdoors. Allow them to experience nature to help instil a sense of responsibility to protect the environment. Perhaps you could do some gardening together or take a stroll through your local park. You could even encourage them to go litter picking or take part in another community-based activity to expand upon their learning.
