5 Easy Ways for Your Business to Get Paid

This is a collaborative post that I thought you would find helpful.

When you’re running your own business, one of the most important things to figure out early is how you’re actually going to get paid. It sounds obvious, but it’s surprising how many people overlook it or put it off until the last minute. If you make it easy for people to pay you, you’ll get paid faster and more often. That’s really what it comes down to. So, if you’re feeling unsure about where to start, here are five easy ways to keep that cash coming in.

Send payment links

One of the simplest ways to collect payments, especially if you work online or offer services, is to send payment links. These are basically clickable links you send your customer so they can pay instantly. No setting up accounts, no waiting for a bank transfer. Just a quick tap and it’s done. You can send them by text, email, or even in a DM. It’s a great option for people who don’t want to mess around with invoicing software or set up a full website right away. And it works for everything from one-off sales to regular bookings.

Accept card payments in person

If you’re dealing with customers face-to-face, a card reader is essential. Not many people carry cash anymore, and you don’t want to miss out on sales just because you’re not set up for it. The good news is, portable card machines are easy to get your hands on and don’t cost much. Most of them connect to your phone through an app, and you can start taking payments within minutes. Plus, being able to accept Apple Pay or contactless makes the checkout process super smooth for your customers.

Make your invoices easy to deal with

For businesses that rely on invoicing, keep things simple. Nobody wants to open an invoice and feel confused about what they’re paying for. Use plain language, lay everything out clearly, and include the most important info at the top. That means your name, the amount owed, and how they can pay you. Make sure to send it as soon as possible after the job is done, and don’t be shy about chasing it up if it’s late. A friendly nudge can make a big difference.

Let people pay directly through your website

Even if you’re not running a full-blown online shop, adding a payment option to your website can make life easier. It could be a simple “pay now” button, a booking form with payment built in, or a checkout system if you sell products. Whatever it looks like, it means your customer can go from interest to payment in one go, without needing to contact you first. The smoother the process, the better your chances of making a sale.

Don’t forget about bank transfers

Bank transfers can still work well in some situations, especially for regular clients or larger payments. Just make sure you’ve got your payment details clearly laid out and double check them before you hit send. It’s a slower option, and not as easy for every customer, but it can be handy for the right jobs. Just don’t rely on it as your only way of getting paid.
