This is a collaborative post that I thought you would find helpful.
When you think about boosting productivity, you usually think about this in a sense of work, like your career, your business, things like that, right? But you also need to think about your life, like your whole lifestyle overall, and the things that fall outside of your career. Life admin’s one of those things nobody really enjoys, but absolutely everyone’s got. Like, one minute you’re feeling on top of everything, the next there’s a pile of unopened letters, way too many subscriptions on your bank statement, and random charges you barely remember signing up for. Now, it sounds familiar, right?
Well, all that boring life admin could be hoarding a fair bit of cash without you even realising. Yeah, sure, a little clear-out might feel like a chore at first, but it could end up paying for your next night out or even a cheeky holiday.
Old Bills and Subscriptions are Basically Forgotten About
While yes, there are finance tools that keep track of your subscriptions, and those are helpful if you want to automate, a lot of people don’t really bother with any of that. So, subscriptions are like that “friend” who always shows up uninvited. You forget they exist… until they pop up asking for money every month. There’s probably a few tucked away in your bank account right now, quietly snatching £5 or £10 here and there. Might’ve been a free trial at first, or some app that felt like a good idea for five minutes, but now it’s just another pointless charge.
Again, the average person seems to be guilty of that. But it’s no different for the bills either. Oh yeah, in fact, energy companies love bumping up prices when nobody’s paying attention. Actually, the same with phone contracts. As awful as it all sounds, companies don’t exactly shout about it when you could be saving. But really, just a quick scan through those bills, a few cancellations, and suddenly your monthly costs start looking way healthier.
Maybe You’re Owed Money
Well, something like this isn’t impossible, right? But yeah, this bit’s always fun. Loads of people are walking around not realising there’s money waiting for them. For example, maybe it’s old refunds, overpaid bills, random tax rebates… It’s all out there. Bit of digging online, a few clicks, and you could end up with a nice little payday.
Now, it’s not always guaranteed, of course, but you never know. Actually, car finance is a big one too. Basically, loads of people are owed money from their old car deals and have no idea (and it’s not like it’s ever going to be advertised either). If you had a PCP or hire purchase deal, especially on a car like a Volkswagen, it’s worth checking. No, really, it’s absolutely true, loads of folks are putting in Volkswagen car finance claims after finding out they were charged too much in interest or fees. It’s unfortunate being overcharged, but it’s nice to get that money back.
Sure, this is just one example, but really, you never know what’s out there for you. So, just take a day or something to see if you’re owed any money.
What About Old Contracts?
It’s way too easy to forget about stuff like insurance renewals, gym contracts, or even old streaming services. But it ties into what was mentioned earlier, you just need a quick run through those direct debits, can save way more than you’d think. Oh, and it might help to look for cheaper deals and see how easy it is to leave your contract.
