Freestanding or Built-in

This is likely to be a decision you already know the answer to unless you are redesigning your entire kitchen!

Colour and style

Do you want a retro-style one, a black gloss one, or just whatever is the best value? I always preferred a black gloss look however the way we currently have ours in a shelf in an alcove means that the colour isn’t really noticed which is good as gives us more options.

Digital or manual

This is usually personal preference isn’t it, I think digital is better personally. If you often have to defrost things like a slice of bread or a cube of garlic then being able to microwave for 20 seconds can be essential!

Size/capacity

If you have a mixing bowl or plate size you often microwave check this will fit inside or you will spend forever annoyed with yourself for not checking! Either that or you will end up returning it to swap for a bigger one!

Price

If you are anything like me this is the main consideration when hunting for anything, a microwave is no different. It can be a long task though cant it checking various websites for the sales and comparing different models. Then you think you find one and it is out of stock!

What do you look for when buying a microwave? Do you over-complicate things? Have these tips helped you to just narrow it down and choose one? Life can be happy and easy by just doing things the easy way! Remember microwaves are the only way to make an easy meal. Why not try recipe boxes like Hello Fresh and see if they could help you.
